“Would You Rather” Book Tag Tour – Brian’s Turn

The “Would You Rather Book Tag” tour is a simple Q&A post in which the tagged, that’s me, answers a series of pre-written questions on books and reading. Once complete, I have to tag 5 people to do the same.

So as near as I can tell, it looks like the original tag tour was actually 10 questions in the “Would You Rather BookTube Edition“. I believe I was tagged to answer 8 questions but I think I’m going to bring it back around to the original ten.

I would normally pass on a tag post like this but when I was tagged by Mitch Mitchell, I thought it was a good fit for me, as well as a nice change of pace. So thank you Mitch, it’s not a game of Global Thermonuclear War

Would you rather…

1. Read only trilogies or stand alones?

I guess I’m a loner. Book series are alright but when I’m looking for a nice fictional story, I don’t want to invest months into a bunch of different books. I just don’t have the bandwidth for it. I’ve been avoiding books like Stephen King’s ‘The Dark Tower‘ series for that very reason. A trilogy (3 books)? I can handle it if it’s an amazing story.

I’ve honestly never given gender a moment’s thought when looking at books and authors. For fiction, I enjoy a lot of Sci-Fi and horror which are generally written by men but that’s the writer’s preference, not mine. I do read a lot of non-fiction, mostly business related, and gender has never been one of my considerations when choosing.

3. Shop at Barnes & Noble or Amazon?

Amazon, all the way. I passed my Nook HD 7″ Tablet

over to my wife once I purchased my Kindle Fire HDX 7″) and haven’t looked back since. I guess I’ve become an unofficial Amazon advocate of sorts.

) , we watch Amazon movies (Instant Video) on our Smart TV, I listen to Audible (Owned by Amazon) daily (Try Audible free for 30 days and Get Two Free Audiobooks

), and Amazon packages are delivered to our home so often we have a special recycle bin for the boxes. True story.

4. All books become movies or t.v. shows?

I’m with Mitch Mitchell on this one, that’s a tough call. I guess story wise, I love books more.

For example, I love the TV series ‘Under The Dome‘ based on Stephen King’s book. Well, this season kind of sucks but that’s for another post. After last season I read the book and it was a great read. The TV series has deviated so much from the book it’s a little hard to enjoy it.

One of my favorite Sci-Fi books of all time was The Martian

by Andy Weir. I’m pretty excited that it is being made into a movie with Matt Damon this fall (October 2015). At the same time, I hope they don’t ruin the story, something Hollywood often does.

5. Read 5 pages per day or 5 books per week?

[Tweet “A chapter a day keeps the reality shows at bay. ~Brian D. Hawkins #FamousQuotes”] Ain’t nobody got time for that. lol Five pages a day; if those are the only two choices but I make it a habit to read at least a chapter every day (not including Audible books).

6. Be a professional reviewer or author?

Hawkins #FamousQuotes #writing”] Ouch, I just realized I could be considered a book reviewer but I’d rather be an author – assuming I couldn’t be both. I review business books on my book review blog, SucessReads.com. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a far cry from a professional reviewer. I’m a blogger and on Success Reads I can feel a tiny bit like both.

7. Only read your top 20 favorite books over and over or always read new ones that you haven’t read before?

Seriously, I can watch a movie two years after watching it the first time and it is as if I had never watched it before. In fact, I can’t count how many times I’ve watched a movie only to realize I’ve already seen it once it’s almost over. But, I love new and exciting stories so I’d have to choose new books I’ve never read.

8. Be a librarian or book seller?

However, I would love to have an old free-standing card catalog cabinet. I have no idea what I would do with it but that was one of my favorite memories of going to the library as a child.

9. Only read your favorite genre, or every genre except your favorite?

The problem is I like so many types of books and genres it would be tough to narrow down to just one. As I mentioned, I love Sci-Fi and horror books but I also like mysteries, and, believe it or not, apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic fiction. And business/success books, of course. 10. Only read physical books or eBooks?

Hawkins #FamousQuotes”] A couple of years ago I would have said I love physical books but, I have to admit, I prefer reading from my Kindle these days. I love the portability of digital content. I can carry an immense library anywhere I go, either on my Kindle or my Galaxy S6.

I’m a bit of a tech geek so I guess it was inevitable I’d gravitate toward digital content. Well, that and being a blogger. 😉 I also love the ability to bookmark, highlight, and add notes while syncing across my devices.
