Since this is the last Weekly News Roundup, I want it to be a great one. I’ve been reading and bookmarking like crazy all week. I have 58 curated articles and news stories coming at you.
Oh, that’s right. I’m closing the week out on a Friday since tomorrow is the new year. Good thing we’re all flexible and understanding and stuff.
What’s Coming Next Year?
Wow, the last issue of the year. Time flies. So this will be our last Weekly News Roundup. Next year we’ll try something new.
I’m thinking along the lines of sharing curated news and articles but those not necessarily hitting the mainstream. News that isn’t getting the attention it deserves because the mainstream decides what’s important. Not here, we’re different. 😉
Maybe something along the line of, News You Missed, 52 editions for 2022. How’s that sound? I’m also thinking I’ll limit the links to just ten articles.
Let’s do this.
The Year 2021 News Roundup In Two Paragraphs
You know, I was going to do a Year 2021 News Roundup, but I figure 1) It’s been done to death and 2) We’re all pretty much sick to death of 2021 and just want to get it over with. So I’ll do a fast version here:
You can easily imagine the content, Storming the Capital, Covid variations, mandates, NY political crooks, more mandates, Build Biden better #failed (Not a typo), the great resignation, Demoncrates (Again, not a typo. Don’t you know me by now) doubling down of stupidity, The second Trump impeachment (That’ll teach him), A graceful Afghanistan exit, AOC almost getting her picture taken without lipstick, I’m sorry (I totally made that up),
Pfizer/BioNTech making billions, Anthony Fauci’s pants caught fire, Oh, and Inflation. There was stock market -vs- GameStop, Elon Musk just about dominating the headlines all year long, and Dogecoin, META, and finally… The C.D.C. exposed itself as a political organization and major news and media outlets followed suit. Suck it 2021!
Ok, Now We Go Into The Last Weekly News Roundup Of The Year
I want to start with a video of some guy who blows his Tesla Model S to smithereens. It’s pretty cool. The video is in Finnish with subtitles, but you can skip ahead to just past the five-minute mark for the good stuff.
Then there’s Elon Musk saying that the Metaverse sucks and Neuralink will be better. Yes, the billionaire boy genius wants chips inserted into our brains. Of course, he does.
I had to put some covad stuff in there, so we have White-tail deer that are testing positive in Ohio for COVID-19. Omicron causes thousands of canceled flights, more children in the hospital from Covid, but overall it seems less severe. The CDC lowered its estimate of Omicron prevalence as well as the number of days the infected should self-quarantine.
Now they’re saying the vac boosters are good until about the 10-week mark so be ready to get a shot every five minutes or so. I mean, if you’re into that kind of thing.
Wired just may become my favorite online magazine. We’ll see but for now, this article, about a Brandy Schillace book, Mr. Humble and Dr. Butcher (Paid link), is right up my curiosity alley: If You Transplant a Human Head, Does Its Consciousness Follow? BTW, Dr. Brandy Schillace is an amazing person, and it’s well worth looking into some of her work.

I hate linking to articles in The New York Times because they want a paid subscription to see their content. I have nothing against that business model, I just don’t want to put my readers through that stress. With that said, I really enjoyed this podcast from the NYT, Dave Eggers Created the Google-Amazon Mash-Up of Your Nightmares.
I shared a link, Crypto investors want to buy the Constitution but I didn’t realize it was from last month. Fast-forward to now, and we know they lost their bid. Still an interesting story, so I left it in.
GasBuddy predicts gas will go up in price in 2022. Wow, they really went out on a limb with that prediction.
We have a couple of bird flu articles because covid isn’t quite enough these days.
And I’ll leave it here with my favorite because I wrote it, Goodbye 2021, I Hope You Choke To Death On Your Way Out.
See ya next year, Brian
